Restore Your Smile with Crowns and Bridges in Brantford
Do you have broken or missing teeth? Contact our office in Brantford to learn how crowns and bridges may help improve your dental health. Often, without the presence of pain or discomfort, many people ignore absent or damaged teeth and delay having the issues addressed. However, neglecting the problems can lead to very serious future consequences. Broken teeth can result in painful infections, while missing teeth can cause neighbouring teeth to shift and make large spaces that create an unattractive smile.
Definitions
A crown or bridge may be the right option for you:
- A Crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers an existing tooth.
- A bridge is a false tooth set between two crowned teeth which act as anchors. Not only are these pieces aesthetically pleasing, they also prevent neighbouring teeth from shifting.
The Crown Procedure
Your dentist can complete this entire procedure in two dental visits. Your dentist will remove surrounding enamel from teeth needing crowns in order to shrink them and allow for a crown fitting. Impressions, or molds, are taken in order to customize crowns to the rest of your teeth. The shape and colour of your surrounding teeth will be taken into consideration so as to provide you with a natural-looking smile. Next, your dentist will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown unit is made at our lab. During the second visit, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and and make any necessary final adjustments. We will then apply a cement compound to the new crown and permanently affix your crown.
Bridge to a Natural-Looking Smile
A bridge serves to fill the gap between two teeth. It is important to note that a bridge is not like an implant. Both serve as a means of filling in gaps where natural teeth once were; however, while an implant is affixed to the actual jawbone where a tooth once was, a dental bridge is attached to two existing teeth in order to cover the space between them. These are permanently cemented and not removable like dentures.
Crown and Bridge Benefits
As mentioned before, many people avoid going to the dentist for missing or broken teeth if they do not experience any pain. However, crown and bridge treatment has many benefits including:
- Preventing further tooth decay and diseases like gingivitis and periodontal disease
- Restoring your natural bite
- Preventing unnecessary stress on your teeth
- Holding your teeth in their proper place
- Enhancing your smile, speech, and chewing ability
