IV Sedation & Nitrous Oxide
Dental anxiety is a common concern amongst patients of all ages. With modern treatments such as IV sedation or Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) available at our Brantford office, it is highly manageable. Don’t let worry prevent you from getting the dental care you deserve. Give us a call or ask us at your next visit, to learn which course of action is best for your needs.
An IV sedative or intravenous sedative is widely used during dental surgeries to relieve the patient from anxiety. It is considered one of the most effective sedative method for dental treatments. After receiving an IV sedative, you are drowsy and less anxious. You will be relaxed and pain-free throughout your dental procedure. You will require a responsible adult to attend the appointment with you and take you home afterwards as you will not be allowed to drive for 24 hours after surgery. We will provide complete instructions to this individual.
Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is another way to calm patients during surgery. A measured amount of the gas is combined with oxygen which is then breathed through a mask over your nose. We’ll be able to control how much nitrous oxide you have so that you have a more comfortable experience. Unlike IV sedation, you can drive yourself after using nitrous oxide as the effects wear off immediately after the mask is removed.
